Memorial Ideas to Remember Your Loved One

The loss of a loved one is never easy, but many people find that a personalised memorial offers them some comfort in the aftermath. There are many different types of memorial to choose from, including traditional headstones, a plaque on a bench, memorial jewellery or a personalised urn.

The type of memorial you choose will be highly personal to you; you might want something fixed that you can visit regularly, or a smaller personal item to carry around. If you’re looking for some memorial ideas to help you remember and celebrate your loved one, see below for some of our favourites.

Memorial jewellery

Memorial jewellery is a beautiful way to keep your loved one close at all times and there are many different options to choose from. You might want to incorporate some ashes or a lock of hair into a resin pendant or engrave a locket with your loved one’s handwriting.

Plant a tree

A tree is a perfect memorial to anyone environmentally conscious and it offers a lasting tribute that can be enjoyed for decades to come. You can plant a memorial tree in your garden if you have space, or find a public plot which allows trees to be planted. Most people pair a memorial tree with a small plaque to remember the deceased.

A memorial bench

If your loved one had a favourite park or beauty spot, a memorial bench and plaque is a lovely way to honour that special place. Your local council is a good place to start and they’ll be able to guide you through the process and give a list of suitable locations.

Plaque or headstone

You can still choose a plaque or headstone if your loved one was cremated and many people find comfort in having a physical location to visit. Most crematoriums have a garden area where plaques or headstones can be placed, or speak to your local place of worship to see if they have a memorial garden.

Normington & Sons are proud to offer beautiful personalised memorials for a fitting tribute to your loved one. Our skilled stonemasons can provide personalised headstone engraving and we’re on hand to discuss your requirements to ensure that the headstone perfectly matches your vision. We also offer commemorative jewellery
and can incorporate a loved one’s ashes or engrave their handwriting for a beautiful piece to treasure forever. For more information about our memorial items or to discuss any of our funeral services, give us a call today or contact us
