Peer Support for Transitions and Trust
WHEELING, IL—When challenges arise, it’s important to find the people we can trust. On January 17, Funeral Professionals Peer Support opens 2023 with a discussion on where to turn when times get hard. Lisa Baue invites funeral professionals to share stories about their difficult transitions.
“Who do you have to talk to when a disaster happens—or maybe just when you have a hard day or a particular business challenge?” asks Lisa Baue, who lost her father and become CEO of Baue Funeral Homes at 30 years old. “What I learned during this unpredictable and sudden disaster in both my personal and professional life is that we are never alone. We must rely on and have people we surround ourselves with who ‘have our backs.’” Lisa will share her own lessons learned during that tough business transition and explain how she found people she could trust along the way. Then, as a professional with 40+ years in funeral service and leadership coaching experience, she will invite others to discuss their challenges and find connection.
For the past two years, the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) and Funeral Professionals Peer Support (FPPS) have provided space for funeral professionals from across the world to connect on the challenges they face on the job and at home. These regular meetings, held on the third Tuesday of each month, invite discussion on a wide variety of topics, and participants often remark on their amazement at discovering how much they have in common despite the geographic distance between them. That’s the power of peer support.
Be sure to join us for the first meeting of the new year with Lisa Baue on transitions and trust. Join Lisa, FPPS Wellness Director Lisa Smith, and CANA to talk about to connect with your peers. Whether or not you have a particular pressing issue to discuss, the meetings are a valuable place to offer support to your colleagues, too!
If you work for a funeral home, cemetery, or crematory serving the public or supporting those who do—connect with us on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT via Zoom link at goCANA.org/peersupport. Students, apprentices, and interns are welcome.
